 and now comes the surprise... the three other people at the table all ordered a fish dish. It was my turn to buy dinner and because of that I was able to choose the location. I asked if Italian was okay and if Little Nikkies was good for everyone. My guests said that was good, “the last time we visited Little Nikkies it was great Italian food.” Well, we were all set for Italian meals cooked by one of the best Italian Chefs in our area. We arrived on a Tuesday night and the room was full. I knew a few people and it was feeling like home. We ordered drinks and wine and then were introduced to the specials....I ordered pasta (al denta) and marinara sauce with a few meatballs and now comes the surprise...the three other people at the table all ordered a fish dish. Fresh Salmon, broiled haddock and Sea Scallops...These are the same people who wanted to go Italian. On a Tuesday night in Carbondale the three fish dishes were as good as any “sea food” restaurant in any town. The broiled Sea Scallops were finished off with just enough lemon, Italian seasoning and hint of butter...very light with consistent heat. All our meals were served with a filling salad and home made dressing. Little Nikkies has a Great Italian salad dressing however, my guests had Ranch, Blu Cheese and Thousand Island all homemade. Not many Italians on that side of the table. The Zazzera family has been servicing homemade family dinners since 1963 and now in its third generation, Little Nikkies at the Ben Mar is continuing this tradition. Richard S.
