You have to be going someplace else to reach The Red Schoolhouse. However once you get their you will feel at home. Mike and Connie have created a family atmosphere for over 30 years. The staff treats you like family and has a way of guiding you towards some good eating.

My mom and I were their on Sunday last week. One of the nicest days this late summer for a ride in the country. We arrived, said hello to Mike, (he was in the kitchen) and settled in for a solid home cooked meal.

Mom started with a Southern comfort Manhattan, “straight up, rocks on the side”. At 94 years old mom can order anything she would like, the way she would like it. After the cherry mom was ready to get started. She walked over to the fresh, well stocked salad bar. This salad bar has many additional selections that are not always offered at other restaurants. So the salad bar would be enough to get us back.

Mom ordered the Prime Rib dinner, with Brussels sprouts, mashed potatoes and fresh bread. When this was presented to the table, mom knew she had lunch for Monday. The portions are big enough for the hardiest of appetites. She truly enjoyed her dinner.

I ordered broiled Haddock, with homemade apple sauce and a baked potato. It was one of the best Haddock meals I have ever had. It was light with just enough butter and lemon to bring out the taste and flavor. Again Mom looked over at my plate and knew Mondays lunch would be delicious.

Well, we finished with the last piece of homemade apple crumb pie. I am getting full just typing this review. You will have a good, solid meal in a clean friendly country setting.

I give this a 3.75 out of 4. I would have given this a 4 out of 4 if Mom had another Manhattan.
